This ascent allows you to discover the Val d'Hérens through breathtaking landscapes and to discover the Grande Dixence dam, the largest gravity dam in the world.

From Sion, leave the plain on a gentle and regular ascent, on a wide road. As the kilometers go by, the panorama widens and allows you to admire the impressive landscape of the Val d'Hérens. The route passes through the typical sunny villages of Vex, Hérémence and Mâche to reach the main road leading to the Grande Dixence dam. As you progress through the Dix Valley, the nature and environment become increasingly wild and unspoilt. The last few kilometers are steeper, with many twists and turns that make up a compulsory passage to reach the base of the Grande Dixence dam. From there, the view of the surrounding peaks and pine forests is spectacular.
